CAM/ATC Technician

Job Summary

The responsibility of the person in this position is to convert customer technical data and specifications into manufacturing data using CAM software applications and tools. The position also involves the resolution of data conversion discrepancies.

Calumet Electronics, a printed circuit board manufacturer, anticipates openings for full-time entry level CAM Technicians at its Advanced Technology Center located in Houghton, Michigan. The CAM Technician position involves converting customer specifications and CAD data to manufacturing or costing data using advanced CAM software and computer applications. Additionally, the position assists with resolving data conversion discrepancies and validating fabrication data. Calumet Electronics maintains facility certifications for ISO9001:2008, AS9100:2009, NADCAP, and ITAR/Export Control.

CAM Technician duties include reviewing technical specifications, processing technical data, operating industry specific CAM applications, creating data for test equipment, executing design rule checklists, and producing highly reliable output for manufacturing.

Candidates must demonstrate technical proficiency with computer software and an ability to perform procedures repetitively and reliably. Employees at Calumet Electronics are expected to maintain a high-level of integrity and discipline, good work ethic, and demonstrate an ability to develop and learn new skills. Computer Aided Manufacturing Co-Op


Calumet Electronics seeks a Co-op to engage in the implementation and training activities of a Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software. The responsibility of the person in this position is to convert customer technical data and specifications into manufacturing data using CAM software applications and tools. A background in CAM, Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) or production manufacturing is desired, but not necessary.

On the job training is provided.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Interpret and process customer data for import into CAM software
  2. Work within CAM software to produce 1-Ups, including:
    • import customer data
    • identify/name layers
    • register layers
    • create origin point
    • verify drill layers
    • create a profile
    • verify part netlist
  3. Compare CAD data to fabrication data
  4. Analyze and resolve data discrepancies
  5. Draft memos clearly explaining discrepancies or problems with customer data files
  6. Assist with routine production discrepancies (i.e. inner layer scaling, material changes, and other as assigned by the CAM Manager or ATC Manager)

This position resides with our Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and will report directly to the ATC Program Manager. Calumet Electronics expects that the Co-op will provide a weekly progress report and operate within a preset schedule.
